Nagoya Tobashi: Skip Nagoya

Have you ever heard of the term "Nagoya Tobashi," which means "Skip Nagoya"?

Nagoyans are always upset whenever they are excluded from major decision-making or important events.  Nagoya is the third largest city in Japan, and has a lot of small but cutting-edge companies which support and even lead Japanese trade and industry.  Toyota, a world-famous car company, has its headquarter in the Greater Nagoya.  Even still, Nagoya seems to be less valued!!  "Why is it," Nagoyans wonder!!

Super Express Bullet Train called Nozomi, which launched its service in 1987, had skipped Nagoya for 5 years to run within 2 and half hours between Tokyo and Osaka.  This was done only for every first train of the day, but still disheartening.  Business commuters between the 2 BIG cities were valued more.  Also, big concerts, either domestic or international, were held in Tokyo first, and then Osaka, and NO Nagoya.  Unfortunately, this skipping practice is still going on....

We understand Tokyo (and the Greater Tokyo) has been experiencing more coronavirus infections and followed by Osaka (and the Greater Osaka).  Today, Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Abe, declared state of emergency for 7 cities including Tokyo and Osaka, but excluding Nagoya.

Nagoya Tobashi AGAIN!!  Yes, Nagoya is fortunately not a hot spot of the coronavirus.  However, in terms of its death count, Nagoya ranks 2nd after Tokyo.  Mr. Kawamura, Mayor of Nagoya, clearly showed some concern against this declaration.  Not just is he upset about the Nagoya Tobashi situation, but also about some chance that Tokyoites and Osaka people may come into Nagoya to avoid uncomfortable restrictions imposed by this declaration.  Nagoya's infections and death counts may go up by this exclusion.

Do only Nagoyans shout "Nagoya Tobashi does not make sense at all at this state of emergency!!"?   What do you think?
