Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market from Tsukiji Market to Toyosu Market

Do you know that Tsukiji Fish Market does not function as Metropolitan Central Wholesale Merket any longer?  Tsukiji Market, which was very famous for seeing the tuna auction live, was closed for good and Toyosu Market has recently taken over from Tsukiji the Metroplitan Wholesale Market and opened on October 11th, 2018.

Now Toyosu Market is open to public (as of October 13th) that domestic and international visitors can be on a tour to experience this new Wholesale Market.  For the tuna auction viewing, you have to wait until January 15th, 2019.  However, if you happen to be in Japan now or will be in the very near future, you can visit some exciting events there, one of which is taking place on October 13 (Sat.) and 14 (Sun).

Later, we would like to talk more about this venue change from Tsukiji to Toyosu, but here are some basic info, such as on access, and tours.

You may can get some sense of the above map to reach Toyosu Fish Market, but we spell out the major access routes in English.

  1. From Shinbashi (新橋) Station by Yurikamome (ゆりかもめ); about 27 minutes
  2. Yuraku Cho (有楽町) Station by Yuraku Cho Line (有楽町線); about 20 minutes
  3. Shin Kiba (新木場) Station by Yuraku Cho Line (有楽町線); about 15 minutes

  • 2) and 3) options take you to Toyosu Station(豊洲), from which you have to walk to the Market.
  • Other options are listed on the above linked map, but you have to change trains at more than one station to reach Toyosu Station (豊洲) or Shijo Mae Station (市場前), which is the terminal station.
